One College Has Eliminated Math Requirements In Order To Increase Graduation Rates (Video)
Posted by Katie on August 08 2017
At California State University, only 20% of students graduate in 4 years. That seems low, but the national average, according to the National Center for Educational Statistics, claims that 59% of students take 6 years to earn their bachelor’s degree. In order to increase the number of students who make the four year cut off, CSU is eliminating their math requirements. What class is causing the trouble for so many students? Intermediate Algebra.

At a time when Americans are falling behind several other countries in both math and science, is this the best option for students? We hope this doesn’t cause a degree mill effect where the standards get lower and lower, effectively taking away the value of a degree.
