Shipwreck Songbird, Gordon Lightfoot, Passes Away at 84

Canadian singer-songwriter, Gordon Lightfoot died last night at age 84.

While Lightfoot was Canadian, one of his songs became something of an anthem for American states bordering Lake Superior, “The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald.”

As mentioned in his Prime Video documentary, “Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind”, the iconic song was done in just one take because Lightfoot was just that good.

You’ve heard of burial at sea, but we think Gordon Lightfoot would appreciate a “burial at Gitche Gumee.”
