My Experience in the Past 3 Days
Well, Steve has been on vacation since Friday and today was my last day sitting in his place. I was put in charge of podcasting while he was away, and I personally thought this was pretty cool. It's not every day that an intern gets to have such a big responsibility on a nationally syndicated radio show. So I found this to be a pretty fricken awesome opportunity for me. Podcasting may not seem like a pretty big deal but it's actually kind of a complicated thing, especially for a retard like myself.
Day 01:
The first day was a big one. I got home from class Thursday night and set my alarm for 3:30 in the morning. I was in bed watching TV until 11:30 and for some reason I couldn't get to sleep. Anxiousness maybe? Yeah, probably. I eventually fell asleep and slowly got out of bed at the sound of my alarm. Took a shower, brushed my teeth, spiked the hair, and got on my way to the radio station. Well, I set my alarm expecting that I would push the snooze button two or three times, which didn't happen. I got to the radio station a good 10 or 15 minutes before Joe arrived and we went into the station. I got the computer turned on and went to all the right pages needed for podcasting. Then the show started and I was ready to start working on the podcasts. Everything went well for the first segment. Then I ran into a speed bump with segment 2. I don't know what the hell happened or how the hell it happened for that matter. But there eventually turned out to be about 7 segment 2's on itunes, and I was getting frustrated. For some reason the unedited segment got posted. So I gave up on that for a little while and worked on. Eventually Andy 2 times and Wiener 2 came in and this was the first time we all met. I didn't know what to expect, but they're actually pretty cool guys. Wiener 2 tried helping me figure out the infamous segment 2 but our idiot powers combined could not figure it out. He really thought it was funny that I was failing, while Andy 2 times sat in the corner and gave me support. Everything went well for the most part throughout the rest of the show as far as podcasting goes. Oh, I eventually had to call Steve, while he was on vacation so that we could figure out segment 2. Didn't figure it out all the way but we cut the 7 down to a 3. Sorry again for that, Steve. We were all sitting in the booth as we heard Free Beer say that they had a surprise for everyone in the next segment. All of us interns looked at each other and all knew that we were in trouble and something was about to go down. We come back from break and we're immediately taken by Joe into a separate studio so that we couldn't hear what was going on. We're all sitting in the studio and were all complaining and trying to figure out what the hell was going on. Then Andy 2 times shit his pants. Wow, that was not a very pleasant smell. Free Beer then comes in asking who wants to go first. Andy goes and I try hard to listen through the walls to hear what was going on. Eventually I was called to the plate. My palms were sweating from me being so damn nervous. Then they ask me to explain the importance of Good Friday. I went to church the first 14 or 15 years of my life so I should know this stuff. I had a general knowledge of what it all was, but I cracked under the pressure because I knew I should have known more, so I rambled on sounding more stupid with every word I spoke. After this the show was almost over. Then I ran into my second road block. I had to get the whole podcasted show into one compressed file for the listeners who like to download the show like that. Well somehow the file got to be about 200 kb. They're supposed to be around 50 kb. Wiener 2 stuck around to try and help me, but we didn't figure anything out. We had no clue what was going on. Steve eventually had to fix it. One more sorry to Steve by the way.
Day 02:
Got to the radio station at a more normal time this time. I got everything set up and everything went really well this day. Stephanie and I were in the booth and we keep saying how much she needs a nick name like all of us other interns. She's gotta do something that makes her stand out or something. Anyways, the rest of the day went really well and that's about it.
Day 03:
I got 4.5 hours of sleep last night. I was up all day watching four shitty movies for my film genre class that I'm taking. I woke up a little late but made it to the station just as Zane was getting there. He scanned his card to open the door. I tried opening the door and of course it's the wrong one and it's locked. The mockery begins. Other than that, I met Wiener 1. This guy is a piece of work but he was pretty cool. He's got this weird hatred (or so it seems) towards Wiener 2 and it seems like he's just gotta be better than him at everything. Wiener 1 decided that we should make a new poll for the website because it hadn't been changed in a while. He said the question should be "which intern do you want to see get punched in the face?" He thought that everyone would choose Wiener 2, but this isn't what happened for the 80 people that voted. Wiener 1 was voted for the most. I found this to be funny how his idea turned on him. Podcasting went well on the other hand with no problems. The day was over and I went back to regular old Intern Lurch. The one who screens calls, makes crappy "Paired with an Idiot" lists, and gets picked on for his hair.
This experience was a pretty fun one for me and it made me realize that it might actually be something that I want to go in to. I checked out classes to take next year for college and I'm excited to see what it's going to be like. I guess only time will tell.
Lurch!
