No good deed goes unpunished, something Malcolm Whitfield learned the hard way when he paid for a Lyft for a drunk woman to get home from the bar and got charged a cleaning fee when she threw up in it.
Lyft is new to the Rochester, New York area so the people there must not be as aware of the norms of ridesharing. Norms such as, if you or someone in your ride throws up in the car, whoever paid for it also gets hit with an over $100 cleaning fee.
That's exactly what happened to Whitfield, except he wasn't even in the car!
Whitfield sent an extremely drunk woman in a Lyft he paid for in order to help her out and help other drivers on the road so she couldn't drive home from the bar.
Fifteen minutes after doing his good deed, Whitfield received a text with pictures from the driver saying she threw up in the car! Whitfield thought he could just double the tip and all would be forgotten until he was hit with a $150 cleaning fee!
At first, the woman refused to pay it (like a jerk) but of course once the story got media attention she told the news she would pay the fee.
As far as Whitfield's lesson learned: don't puke in a Lyft or Uber. Also, he will definitely think twice before helping drunk people!
