Yesterday on the show, we checked out a local news story from WZZM 13
that exposed the dishonesty (shocking!) of a group of local panhandlers that routinely work high-traffic intersections in the city, asking for money from people. It wasn't really surprising to learn that they weren't being honest, but it really bugged us when the one guy, Rudy, blatantly admitted that he was not a veteran (as his sign indicated he was). He bragged about the amount of money he pulled in daily, and even said that he used most of it to buy beer and get drunk in the park with his fellow panhandlers.
This, of course, did not sit well with people. We decided to send Producer Joe out to Rudy's spot with a sign of his own to see what would happen.
Thanks to the generosity of listeners, we were able to raise nearly $1,100 on Thursday morning to benefit the Grand Rapids Home For Veterans. We'll be matching ever dollar that we raised and will cut a check to the GRHFV for $2,200!
