The announcement came down just a little while ago from NBA Commissioner Adam Silver: L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been banned for life from all NBA activities and fined $2.5 million, which will be donated to organizations dedicated to anti-discrimination and tolerance efforts. This is all in response to the tapes that were released over the weekend containing a conversation between Sterling and his girlfriend, in which Sterling made numerous racist remarks towards African American players.
"We stand together in condemning Mr. Sterling's views. They simply have no place in the NBA,” Silver stated.
After a three-day investigation by the NBA, it was confirmed that it was indeed Sterling’s voice on the tapes. So he’s out. And the rest of the league seems to be better because of it as many players have taken to Twitter to voice their praise for first-year commissioner Silver.
Sterling’s banishment from the league and $2.5 million fine is the biggest punishment ever issued by the league. Silver also said that he will also try to force Sterling to sell the Clippers.
Does the punishment fit the crime?
