The annual White House Correspondents' Dinner went down in Washington on Saturday. Here are the highlights:
As usual, a lot of random celebrities were there, like Carrie Fisher, who brought her dog along. Gary the French bulldog is her therapy dog, and she's trying to make him famous with his own Instagram account.
Helen Mirren was there, and she was paying tribute to Prince with a purple dress. She also had a hand-drawn, fake tattoo of his 'love symbol' on her chest, just below her collar bone.
Bernie Sanders showed up business casual, and in his speech President Obama joked, "Bernie you look like a million bucks, or to put in terms you'll understand: 37,000 donations of $27 each." That does add up to $999,000.
Donald Trump didn't show, but his sons Donald Jr. and Eric were there. So they had to sit through Obama roasting their dad. He joked, "We have a room full of reporters, celebrities, cameras, and he says 'no.' Is this dinner too tacky for The Donald? What could he possibly be doing instead? Is he at home eating a Trump Steak, Tweeting out insults to [German leader] Angela Merkel? What is he doing? There's one area where his experience could be invaluable, and that's closing Guantanamo. Because he knows a thing or two about running waterfront properties into the ground.” And then to the media, Obama said, "I hope y'all are proud of yourselves. The guy just wanted to give his hotel business a boost and now we're praying that Cleveland makes it through July." That's where the GOP Convention will be.
Obama also did a pre-taped segment about leaving the White House, and it included jokes about his birth certificate and Obamacare and it featured cameos from Joe Biden and John Boehner. The Boehner stuff was amusing, and it ended with him trying to peer-pressure Obama into smoking a cigarette again.
Obama ended his speech by dropping the mic...literally. He said, "With that, I have just two more words to say: Obama out.
Host Larry Wilmore also had some good material. One of his targets was CNN's Don Lemon. Larry joked, "Some of America's finest black journalists are here tonight. Don Lemon's here, too.
" Don responded by giving Larry the finger, but he later said he was joking too. "All in good fun. I love Larry Wilmore. He was also pretty brutal to Wolf Blitzer, and he didn't even bother to disguise it in a joke.
Larry targeted a lot of people, including Sanders, who he said, "usually goes to the White House Correspondents' Early Bird Dinner.
Larry also said, "Mr. President, the office has taken its toll on you. You look terrible. Your hair is so white, it tried to punch me at a Trump rally."
Larry ended by giving Obama some respect, and then dropping an N-word. "Yo Barry, you did it my [N-word]."
On a side note, Trump has yet to respond to any of the "jokes" from the Correspondents' Dinner. Although, it's really only a matter of time before he lights up Twitter. Check out the President's full speech below.
