Watching a professional pickpocket in action is a bit hypnotizing.  You think that by watching really closely, you'll be able to tell how he's stealing your stuff, kind of like when a magician is doing street magic.  "If I focus really hard and never take my eyes off his hands, he wont' steal my watch" you say...as he's wearing your watch.
