A man in Toronto spent three years about about $30,000 building a really impressive treehouse. Obviously, as you can tell by the price, this wasn't just a plywood box with a roof, either! It was a very elaborately built treehouse that was modeled after a boat, and he built it on top of a dead tree in his backyard!
The treehouse offers over 100 square feet of space and can comfortably fit him, his kids and all of their friends. The man says that he built the treehouse to encourage his kids to play outside and use their imagination, instead of playing video games all day. Pretty great, right? Well, not everyone thinks so!
The man said that he did not apply for a permit when starting the project a few years ago, but later filed paperwork last fall to make sure everything was on the up and up. Unfortunately, his application was denied and he was recently told by the city of Toronto that he had one week to tear the structure down because it violated building bylaws. However, he says that he's not tearing it down. It cost way too much to build and took way too long. The city says that if he does not comply, a court order will be issued for the boat treehouse to come down and he will be charged.
